The Giving Hope & Help 11th Anniversary and Scholarship Awards Gala, held on June 22, 2024, was a celebration marked by inspiration and intentional achievement. Over 500 attendees supported this monumental event! Emcees, Darron Story from Power 105.1FM and Carolina Cruz, KCTV5 - Morning Anchor, were amazing! KCTV5 covered the event. Event Chairs: Gerald and Dionne Morris were a bright light!
The event commemorated the 11th Anniversary of Giving Hope & Help, highlighting its significant, intentional impact of the mission that embodies the Social Drivers of Health. The 2024 Education is Your Passport Scholarship Recipients were celebrated and awarded scholarships for their achievements and pursuit of higher education.
Guests were treated to captivating performances by renowned saxophonist Willie Thornton, and the Next Paige Talent Agency. A Live painting by artist, Crissi Curly was auctioned with other awesome items. The excitement peaked with the announcement of the Golden Ticket Winner (Trip to Mexico) and lively auctioneering led by Trisha Brauer.
Special awards were given to the Volunteer and Youth Volunteer of the Year, recognizing their outstanding contributions: Lydia Owens and Caleb Harris, respectively. We honored 19 Class of 2024, college bound, scholarship recipients and Amauri Lynn Hughes was posthumously honored as the first Honorary Education Is Your Passport Scholarship Recipient, as well as a $1,000 scholarship was announced in her honor to be awarded to a high school senior from the Class of 2025 next year! KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas gave moving remarks via video, and we heard inspiring speeches from the Legacy Scholarship Recipients, our founder, board members and special guests. We awarded over $60,000 in cash scholarships-(10k) and in-kind educational tools and resources to the recipients. The evening concluded with dancing to the sounds of DJ Ice Kole.
Overall, the Gala was a memorable evening filled with entertainment, recognition of achievements, acknowledgements of the organization's commitment to giving hope and help through the Social Drivers of Health: ending period poverty, domestic violence advocacy, education, cancer support, community involvement, and giving.
